Your first chord: C major

Three notes that sound great together.

2 min read

A chord is simply two or more notes played at the same time. The most famous starting chord is C major — bright, happy, and easy to find.

Build it: C, E, G

Place a finger on C, skip D and play E, then skip F and play G. Press all three together. That’s C major.

C major = C + E + G, played together.

Tip: Notice the shape: skip a key, skip a key. Most basic chords are built by skipping like this.
